June,
1989, I was in Tokyo on business and decided to
climb Mt. Fuji. Cathy and I took a train to
Kawagujiko (or something like that) and a bus to
the 5th level, or trailhead. It's actually a
pretty popular tourist spot during the season.
Cathy waited while I climbed. Thousands of people climb Mt. Fuji every
year, but almost all wait until the snow melts
and the "climbing season" opens. I was
lucky enough to be a few weeks early. When I was
on top, I saw a group of people on the opposite
side of the cone, headed down the mountains. Then
I was alone on top of Mt. Fuji.
